Hot Stone Massage
Do you need something to help you to relax, and relieve muscle tension brought on during the course of a rough day? Then a hot stone massage, also known as hot stone therapy, may be a solution for you.
About Hot Stone Massage
The benefits of a hot stone massage have been around for centuries. Native Americans used this technique to help with overall mental, spiritual, and physical wellness. Native Americans used hot stones to relieve tension and detoxify their bodies.
In some European countries hot bricks and stones were swaddled in cloth and placed over someone with an injury for relief.
In China, hot stone massage has been found to be practiced as early as 1500 BC. Used mostly as a method for relieving muscle tension and alleviate aches.
In modern times hot stone therapy is used in much the same way, yielding the same benefits. One simple session can help you to release, relax, and rejuvenate; and regular sessions can help keep you feeling relaxed and younger all year round!
How Hot Stone Massage Works
The most typical type of stone for this technique is basalt, as it regains heat easily. Stones that have been in rivers are generally favored for their erosion smoothed features.
The therapist usually has a number of differently sized stones ranging from the width of two fingers to palm sized; these are used to stimulate various parts of your body such as your feet, belly, back, and palms.
The stones are dipped in water and heated by machine which carefully monitors for the correct temperature. The stones are used to work the muscles of the body, similar to the way the massage specialist uses their hands.
The stones could be worked into the muscles, over a layer of oil that has been primed into the body, or they will be placed straight onto the skin (possibly separated by a towel or sheet) to allow for more heat to permeate the body and reach the tense muscles. This makes for a much more substantial massage once the heat has loosened your muscles.
The Benefits of Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage alleviates aching and sore muscles since the heat forces them to relax, once in their relaxed state muscles are much easier to be manipulated.

Styles Of Hot Stone Massage
Since hot stone massage (in this form) has only been in practice for a few years, many therapists have begun to use it as a technique, and often put their own swing on it.
Some therapists alternate the temperature of the basalt stones with cooler marble stones. Other masseuses may use several traditional massages alongside hot stone massage.
Hot stone is not for everyone. People who are just recovering from surgery, cancer treatments, those prone to blood clots, and pregnant woman should consult a doctor before getting this specific kind of massage.
